LEADING BY BEING®:
The Academy's Foundation Course

This course is designed to lead people to a far-reaching inquiry into their relationship with learning, bringing awareness to our humanity, and the process of deep transformation. We invite participants to engage with ‘learning field inquiry’ as an active medium for ongoing development and bringing their life work into being through personal leadership.

TEACHER RENEWAL
Bringing Passion into the Classroom, One Teacher at a time.

Project workshops facilitated by Patty Lee

We have established a long-term teacher renewal program in Santa Fe that is based on the belief that profound learning experiences can lead teachers to a deeper connection with their original inspiration to teach. This then provides a source of energy that counters teacher burnout, changes how teachers are in the classroom, and improves teacher retention in schools.

Now helping teachers carry transformative learning to their students through the Classroom Renewal pilot project.

ERNEST THOMPSON SETON LEGACY
and the Learning Landscape

Seton Gallery Curator: David L. Witt

The Academy’s relationship with Ernest Thompson Seton began with the purchase of his former home, the Seton Castle. We became stewards not only of his former home and land but also of its artwork, writing and artifacts, which are now part of the Seton Legacy.

What most inspires the Academy is the extraordinary transformation he went through and how, as a result, his own world changed. Our Learning Landscape program pays tribute to Seton’s love of nature by applying Academy principles to the way we approach the land itself.

About Our Programs

The Academy’s work is based in a transformative learning methodology that draws from a wide, multi-disciplinary spectrum of resources: educational philosophy and practice, the arts, transpersonal studies, contemplative traditions, earth-based wisdom, body-centered practices, psychotherapy, organizational consulting, and the wisdom distilled from personal experience.

We Hasten Slowly

The pace of our work may seem to run counter to the demands of our time. Urgent calls for action are vital forces of change and we must attend to them. But we must also recognize that actually to become the change we want to see in the world requires that we transform our selves, unlearning habitual ways of being so as not to recreate our current dilemmas in the future.

We must slow down enough to inquire, to contemplate and to experience the subtleties of our true nature. For this reason, the work of the Academy is slow and deliberate. We hasten slowly, thus laying the ground for new expressions of our humanity, informed by compassion and a deep reverence for learning. We want our efforts to result in long term, sustainable change.

We Are All Leaders

While each Academy program has its own distinct set of outcomes, the basic tenet within all the programs is that whatever our vocation or role in life, we are all leaders and it is who we are as human beings that is of greatest importance.

Experiential Work

In the Academy’s view, who we are as human beings is indicated by the depth of our engagement with and openness to life and ongoing learning; our self-awareness; and our capacity to be as fully awake as imaginable with one another. Therefore, our work is strongly experiential and calls forth a high degree of self-reflection, both individual and collective. This ground of deepening self-awareness provides the stability and freedom from which right action can grow.
