PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Learning through the Body

The somatic experience is an integral part of the learning process. Through conscious awareness and gentle movement, we can access important information about who we are as human beings and the impressions life has made on us that are stored in the memory of the body. This exploration promotes a deep sense of compassion for our physical reality, offering new options for how we move our bodies, and new pathways for how we move through life in the world.

Does Your Pelvis Know Where Your Head Is? Do ‘They’ Have Feet?

Life Impressions Bodywork offers classes designed to explore self-corrective responses in our nervous system inspired through movement and manual therapy, and the balance of life force based on principles of Ayurvedic Medicine.

This 2 1/2 hour class with three interconnected lessons has generous breaks for integration, walking outdoors, and time for being with your ‘self’ in movement.

The two heaviest parts of your functional structure are the head and pelvis. These components must be balanced in vertical space whenever we are sitting standing or walking. Therefore we must be able to sense them individually and in relationship in order to move with comfort. Our head and pelvis must have clear functional supportive and foundation feet.

This class will help you re-discover and clarify these relationships:

  • Our cranium not only assumes a significant mass and weight but contains balancing sensors that can tell us where we are in space.
  • At our other end, our feet also have ‘sensors’ that relate to space balance and spatial relationship.
  • Our pelvis—the most heavily muscled of these three areas—is a place where great functional power can be accessed. One could say the pelvis is like a great work-horse which needs guidance from above and below.

All of these areas register and can hold events, such as a fall, sprained ankle, or other such traumas. Events accumulate over time and stronger events can knock us out of alignment. We make fine adjustments to compensate, move on, and forget the ease and elegance, which is stored/hidden within.

Van’s most current teaching combines principles and practices from Ayurveda, Osteopathic medicine and the Feldenkrais method® among others. Ayurveda & Life Impressions Bodywork® embraces the fact that we are Spirit, that has become form. Our physical, emotional, mental and energetic aspects developed from embryonic stages to this moment hold information for personal growth. By exploring our form with great care, safety and support, movement exploration and hands on connect we tend to arrive once more at the indwelling Spirit from whence we began.

As this is a short experiential workshop. if you plan to attend, please arrive by 9:55.
