Date: Wednesday, January 18th, 2017
Time: 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM
Location:

Volunteering to mentor or tutor a young person can be a rewarding experience, but it can also bring up some important questions. What’s the best way to support a child’s learning? How much should I correct, and how much should I let the child find his or her own way? What am I gaining from this experience, and how can I apply it to other parts of my own life?

Facilitated by Academy faculty, the LeAP workshop combines experiential learning, theoretical analysis, and dialogue to invite participants to reflect on their own beliefs about teaching and learning, compare their theories with other mentors and research, and consider the impact of the program on their own lives.

Who is this program for?

Inspire Santa Fe mentors are expected to attend one LeAP workshop during the year. The workshop is also open to anyone who works with children in a learning relationship, including mentors with the Monte del Sol Mentorship Program, volunteer tutors with Santa Fe Public Schools, Adelante, MATCH, Communities in Schools and the Interfaith Coalition for Public Education, volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters, among others.
