Drawing from Experience

The power of your story
Where we come from is alive in us: family, culture, land, food, sound… Embracing and sharing the sensory richness of our roots, we more fully embody our own aliveness.

Date: Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014
Time: 6:30 PM- 3:30 PM

Knowing our roots, and remembering the people, places, and experiences that make us who we are, can strengthen our confidence. Sharing our own stories, and hearing other people’s stories, invites insight and a deepening of compassion, as well as an increased sense of connection within a group or community – personal or professional.

Drawn from the work of George Ella Lyon and Levi Romero, workshop participants will explore their own stories of identity – whatever that means to each person at this moment in their individual lives. Engaging with personal story through oral, written, and visual reflection helps to evoke multi-sensory memories of place, culture, and ancestry. Using a variety of creative materials, each participant creates their own visual “I am from…” poem and, together, the group experiences the rich learning that emerges from telling and hearing story.
