Research and Resources

The Academy as a Think-and-Do Tank
The Academy’s unique vision and innovation, developed by founder Aaron Stern, is influenced by and grounded in a body of sound research. We follow developments in educational philosophy, maintaining a library of research that catalogues where and how schooling and learning is being reimagined in vital ways.

For over 25 years, Aaron Stern, founder of the Academy for the Love of Learning, has consulted with organizations across the nation and internationally, reinventing institutional paradigms to center around learning and transformation.

This methodology guides our research initiative and lies at the heart of Ventana, the Academy’s organizational consultancy program. Through internal research and collaborations the Academy is committed to discovering innovative, sustainable solutions to the complex challenges of our times.

Internal Research

The Academy coordinates a variety of internal research projects. One project, which ran in 2013-2014, investigated how Common Core Standards intersect with the El Otro Lado in the Schools integrated arts curriculum. This project demonstrated how arts-rich, experiential learning delivers hard academic skills.

Collaborative Research

In 2014, the Academy launched a 3-year research project with Richie Davidson and his team at the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Davidson, a leading neuroscientist, was named one of the most influential people in the world by Time Magazine in 2006. His breakthrough research has revolutionized how we understand the mind, our emotions, and how to nurture wellbeing for ourselves and others.

The Academy’s project with the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds will explore the connection between wellbeing and transformation within the various programs of the Academy.
