Date: Sunday, October 12th, 2014
Time: 12:00 PM- 12:00 PM

The Academy for the Love of Learning and Ghost Ranch Education & Retreat Center Present:

A CONVERSATION
with Gloria Steinem, Alice Walker, Dr. Chung Hyun Kyung and Aaron Stern

This event ushers in a yearlong exploration:

What does a holistic, balanced leader look like?

How is leadership changing and what is the new form of leadership?

This event will showcase the wisdom of experienced and successful leaders and start to explore the questions:

  • What would healthy, balanced, regenerative leadership look like?
  • Where do we see that leadership already happening in the world today?
  • What does a new paradigm of leadership look like?
  • What are the inward changes we would need to make, as both leaders and “followers,” to bring about a new paradigm in leadership?

Gloria Steinem is a writer, lecturer, editor, and feminist activist. She travels in this and other countries as an organizer and lecturer and is a frequent media spokeswoman on issues of equality. She is particularly interested in the shared origins of sex and race caste systems, gender roles and child abuse as roots of violence, non-violent conflict resolution, the cultures of indigenous peoples, and organizing across boundaries for peace and justice.

Alice Walker is an internationally celebrated author, poet and activist whose books include seven novels, four collections of short stories, four children’s books, and volumes of essays and poetry. She’s best known for The Color Purple, the 1983 novel for which she won the Pulitzer Prize—the first African American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction, though (in her opinion) not the first African American woman to deserve it —and the National Book Award.

Associate Professor Chung Hyun Kyung, graduated from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul with a B.A. (1979) and an M.A. (1981). She holds a Masters in Divinity from the School of Theology at Claremont (1984), a diploma from the Women’s Theological Center in Boston (1984), and a Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary (1989). She is a lay theologian of the Presbyterian Church of Korea, as well as once having become a temporary Buddhist novice nun.
