Catalyzing our voices to co-create change!

Do you have ideas about how to make your community a better place? Do you imagine co-creating change with your friends? Join the Academy for the Love of Learning’s Youth Planning Board for #TheLearningSpirit Youth Summit!

What is the Youth Planning Board?

The Academy for the Love of Learning invites young people to join our Youth Planning Board for #TheLearningSpirit Youth Summit!

We are a learning organization that seeks to reimagine how and where transformational learning happens – learning that emerges from doing what you love, finding a sense of purpose, and sharing your purpose with your community and the world. We are convening a Youth Planning Board so that we can better serve young people as an organization. We are interested in deepening our understanding of how young people find a sense of purpose and voice by exploring their interests, reflecting with peers, and co-creating the change they wish to experience in the world.

The Youth Planning Board will help the Academy imagine, create, design, and plan #TheLearningSpirit Youth Summit, a three-day, youth-driven learning experience and ecosystem of co-creation. To plan the Youth Summit, Board members will practice facilitation, workshop design, program planning, and outreach. Our monthly meetings will also serve as a space for Board members to explore how they want to share their voices, stories, and creativity.

Board Members will be paid $15/hour and meet twice a month. Board meetings are currently Zoom based (virtual).

Who should join the Youth Planning Board?

An ideal Board member is someone who cares about their community and wants to co-create positive change. They can be any type of change-maker: an artist, a writer, an activist, an organizer, an inquirer, or a seeker — anyone that observes the world around them, reflects, and asks why. If you imagine yourself creating new ways of being and relating with others and positively impacting your community, this learning opportunity is for you.

By joining the Board, you will gain skills in collaboration, leadership, workshop design, program planning, and outreach. These skills can be applied to other extracurricular activities, school projects, or your own personal practices.

What is #TheLearningSpirit Youth Summit?

Tentative dates are June 28-30, 2024. The Summit will be an in-person event.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for! #TheLearningSpirit Youth Summit is a three-day, youth-driven learning experience and ecosystem of co-creation, supporting young people in ushering in the new era of collective leadership.

As a group of learners, inquirers, imaginers, creators, and change-makers, we will reflect on two questions: What is mine to do in the world? And how can I organize actions or creative expressions around this mission, individually and collectively? The Summit’s day-based themes will guide how we explore these questions.

  • Day 1 – Who Am I? // Hear + Recognize Your Voice
  • Day 2 – Who Are We? // Express and Share Your Voice
  • Day 3 – What Is It? // Collective Voice and Action in the World

Day 1 will begin with us sharing our stories, learning from a storyteller, and practicing reflection and awareness through creative exercises. On Day 2, we will practice being present, experience a round robin of learning workshops, and begin co-creating our own learning workshops. On Day 3, we will reflect on what it was like to co-create a workshop with our peers and what we learned about collective leadership. We will then conclude the Summit by planning one collective action – an action that emerges from a unified vision of repairing and changing the world – we want to take in our communities.

Join us to explore collective leadership and reimagine our shared futures!
