Thank you to all who generously contributed to the Academy for the Love of Learning on this year’s #GivingTuesday. Your gifts helped to provide direct support to El Otro Lado in the Schools and Lifesongs, and as part of the #GivingTuesday movement, your contributions were matched by The Gates Foundation.
Providing to programs like El Otro Lado and Lifesongs by participating in movements like #GivingTuesday doesn’t have to happen only once a year. The recently created sponsorship opportunities for El Otro Lado can be found here, where you can continue to support El Otro Lado in the Schools by funding a teacher, art box, or student. Since 2010, over 1,000 Santa Fe youth, 20 teachers and 20 community artists have participated in El Otro Lado in the Schools. Every year we work with 8 teachers and 8 teaching artists with over 200 students. El Otro Lado transforms not only Santa Fe students’ lives, it completely changes the classroom culture. Your sustained gift helps to ensure that this program continues to touch others and restore understanding across boundaries and cultural divides.
Lifesongs is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from New Mexico Arts for the annual culminating concert at The Lensic, and we invite you to match these funds. The Lifesongs’ annual performance is a high-production value concert that draws the community in to listen to our elders’ original Lifesongs, performed by professional musicians and people of all ages. The audience attending the beautiful presentation of the elders’ voices (which are too often marginalized and not heard) dignifies the participants, and helps to strengthen our community across all ages. While grants such as the one received from New Mexico Arts help to supplement the costs to produce the concert, your matching gift will increase the performance level and experience for both participants and audience members and ensure the continuation of this important artistic outlet.
