Teacher Renewal Workshop Series – Spring

A deep exploration into the Academy for the Love of Learning's experiential pedagogy

Through artistic expression, reflection and peer-to-peer conversation, teachers will identify their own impulses as learners and teachers, and develop their capacities to stand as exemplars of lifelong learners before their students.

Location:

This program is for anyone who works with children in a K-12 classroom setting, public or private. This includes teachers, counselors, administrators, substitutes, educational assistants, librarians and more. Many participants come from the Santa Fe Public School district, which offers a stipend for participants, but the program is open and free of charge for teachers and educators from other schools and districts as well.

Key to the success of this program is participation in all three workshops. The workshops are sequential in content and are intentionally spread out over the course of the semester to allow time for participants to develop a sense of community and fellowship, and bring their learning back to the classroom as they explore self-generated hypotheses about their own teaching and learning practices.

NOTE: SFPS teachers should also register at My Learning Plan to receive a stipend from the district.

This program includes snacks, lunch, and excellent coffee.

Randy Grillo

Randy Grillo has been a teacher of young adults for two decades. Through his experiences teaching in Washington State, Mexico, Costa Rica and New Mexico, he has developed a style of education dedicated to creating experiences for students where they slowly gain control of their own learning and the teacher becomes more the facilitator than the expert in the room

Randy holds a B.A. in Romance Languages and Literature from the University of Washington, a Master’s in Education from Western Washington University, and National Board Teacher Certification in World Languages. He teaches Spanish Language Arts at Monte del Sol Charter School, TESOL methodology classes at Santa Fe Community College and consults with school districts for best practices in working with English Language Learners.

Upon finishing his first school year in Santa Fe in 2009, Randy enrolled in the Summer Teacher Renewal Institute, and since then has participated in Wisdom Circles and El Otro Lado in the Schools. He co-facilitates the Teacher Renewal Series.
